Health is the level of functional efficiency of a living being. In humans, it is the general condition of a person’s mind, body, and spirit, usually meaning to be free from illness, injury, or pain. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

We have heard the common saying “Health is wealth”。 A healthy person can work hard and earn wealth and happiness. But an unhealthy person cannot be happy though he is wealthy. A healthy person is bold and confident. They do their work confidently and can get success in their life. A healthy person is an asset to himself, to his family, and to his community. On the other hand, an ailing person is a burden on all. He is a danger for coming generations because heredity plays an important part in this respect.

Healthy people can work harder and better. They accomplish their work successfully. They do not lose heart. Through their continuous efforts, they get success in their work. But an unhealthy person is timid. They are not confident in any work. Even easy work is difficult for them. Thus good health is essential to all.

Health cannot be achieved merely by taking one or two pills every day or by observing a few restrictions. It can be achieved only by understanding what health is, what it depends on, and then applying this knowledge in everyday life. The care of the body regarding food, cleanliness, exercise, rest, and protection against disease, are essential for the preservation of sound health. Life is for living. Without health, life is deprived of not only much of its usefulness but also its joys and pleasures.

We must take plenty of milk, eggs, green vegetables, fish and fruits. Only a balanced diet cannot keep our health good. We must take physical exercise. There are different kinds of physical exercises. Walking is the easiest exercise. The other kinds of physical exercises are swimming, games.

In conclusion, the development of a country depends on the health of its people. When all people are healthy, they can work harder which leads to the progress of the family, society, and the nation. The greatest wealth of a country is its healthy people. They provide a nation with good human resources. So, people should be taught how to be healthy. Health education should be introduced in school. People should know the importance of health right from their childhood.
